Mr. Atkins was a partner at Coopers & Lybrand, and its successor company PriceWaterhouseCoopers for 29 years, and at various stages of his career, served on that firm's Executive Committee and led its audit and accounting practice, its financial service practice and its international affairs.

Mr. Atkins is a Chairman of Swiss Reinsurance Canada and Swiss Re Life & Health Canada, and serves on the American board of Swiss Re. He is also the Chairman of Nightingale Informatix Inc., a publicly traded medical records company. Mr. Atkins is a Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of various public companies including Kingsway Financial, Pet Health Inc., Pareto Corporation, and Integrated Asset Management, Inc. He also serves as a Director of a number of privately held financial services companies.

Mr. Atkins is a Governor of the Actra Fraternal Benefit Society and he chairs the Professional Liability Insurance Committee of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

He graduated from Oxford University with a Masters of Art in Law and was awarded his designation as a Chartered Accountant in England and Wales, and was awarded his FCA at the Ontario Institute of Chartered Accountants. He served as an Officer in the British Army in Germany with the 7th Armoured Division.
