| | Mr. van den Broek, who started his career as a lawyer, was Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands (1982-1993) and previously State Secretary for Foreign Affairs (1981-1982). From 1993 to 1999 he was European Commissioner in charge of foreign affairs and expansion of the European Union. Mr. van den Broek was in 1991 one of the key EU negotiators of the Brioni Agreement, which ended the Slovenian war. Until recently, Mr. van den Broek was a member of the special Committee of Eminent Persons of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe ("OSCE"). In 2005 Mr. van den Broek was given the title Minister of State of The Netherlands, an honorary special advisor role for life to the Dutch Cabinet and Queen. There are currently six Ministers of State in the Netherlands. Mr. van de Broek is currently Chairman of the Carnegie Foundation, Chairman Board of Governors The Hague Academy of International Law, member of the Board of Overseers of the University of Utrecht, Director of the Schiphol Airport Groep, President of the Netherlands Institute of Foreign Affairs "Clingendael", Member of the Global Leadership Foundation, Chairman of the Calamiteiten Commissie of the Stichting Calamiteiten Fonds, Honorary Ritmeester of the Dutch Cavalry, and Chairman of Dutch World Radio Broadcasting. Mr. van den Broek obtained his Doctorate in law from the University of Utrecht and completed a post-graduate course in senior management at "De Baak" in Noordwijk, the Netherlands. | |
