| | Mr. West, BSc PhD PEng CEng FIChE has been actively involved in the Chemical Industry for the last 40 years in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. Mr. West started his career at Polymer Corporation in Sarnia in 1963. He returned to the U.K. to lecture at UMIST in 1967, and then joined Imperial Oil in1973 working for their Esso Chemical division in Sarnia, Toronto and Houston. In 1988 he became President of Alkaril Chemical, which was purchased by Rhone-Poulenc in 1989. He was part of the integration team, which restructured four chemical businesses and he was subsequently named President. The implementation of the restructuring was successfully completed and he was named Chairman and Country Manager for the Rhone-Poulenc Groupe in Canada ("RP"). In 1997 he restructured the RP organization ready for the split into Rhodia and Aventis. Later that year, he moved to Canada Colors & Chemicals Ltd as President and facilitated the restructuring and succession planning for this successful privately owned distributor, which is the 8th largest in North America. Mr. West has been a Board member of the Canadian Chemical Producers Association since the early 1990's and was Chairman in 1996 and 1997. He served on a number of committees, helping to draft the Responsible Care distribution codes and later helped to forge an alliance between the Canadian Association of Chemical Distributors and CCPA on Responsible Distribution. He is a Member of the Board of the National Association of Chemical Distributors in Washington, the Advisory Board of SGF Chimie in Montreal, and member of the Executive Board of the Society of Chemical Industry, Canada Section, where he was Chair from 1997 to 1999. Mr. West has been involved with a number of government initiatives at the federal and provincial level. He Co-Chaired the Ontario Chemical Industry Council and launched the Canadian Agility Forum, which helps companies improve their competitiveness. He is currently Co-Chairing an initiative to follow up on the Chudleigh Report of the Ontario Government on the development of the Chemical Industry in the province. Mr. West moves easily from senior industry initiatives to senior government presentations to academic discourses to friendly chats with his wide network of colleagues. His solid commitment to the fostering of an economic environment in which scientific advances and improved competitiveness are synergistic, have made him a respected and valued leader in the Canadian chemical industry. | |
